How many stages of correction does my car need?

It depends on the paint condition. Light swirls often need only a finishing stage, while moderate defects and oxidised paint need a cutting stage first. We confirm after measuring the paint and testing a panel.

Does paint correction thin the paint?

It removes a very thin layer of clear coat. We measure thickness before we start and stay within a safe margin, so the paint can be corrected again in future.

Will the swirls come back?

Only if the car is washed the way that caused them. A pH-neutral hand wash with clean mitts keeps the finish, and a ceramic coating makes the surface harder to mark.

What paint correction removes

Paint correction is machine polishing that levels the clear coat. It removes defects in the top of the clear coat that a wash or a wax only hides for a few weeks.

What it cannot fix

A scratch that has gone through the clear coat into the colour or primer cannot be polished out. If your fingernail catches in it, it is probably that deep. We can often make it less visible, and we tell you at inspection which marks will stay.

Why paint in Malta needs it

Strong sun oxidises clear coat and turns dark colours dull and chalky. Dust and salt air mean cars get washed often, and every wash with a gritty mitt or a brush adds more swirls. A car that is parked outside and washed often usually shows both.

How we do it

We wash and decontaminate the car, then measure paint thickness on every panel. That reading tells us how much clear coat we can safely work with.

Correction is done in stages. A cutting stage removes the defects, and a finishing stage refines the surface back to full gloss. Heavily oxidised paint may need an extra cutting pass. We check each panel under studio lighting between stages.

Protecting the finish afterwards

Correction takes the paint back to a clean surface, and the next bad wash starts marking it again. A ceramic coating on top holds the finish and makes safe washing easier. That is why we usually coat a car straight after correcting it.
